Anna Žabicka

Anna Žabicka holds a doctoral degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the University of Vienna (2026), as well as master’s degrees in anthropology from Wayne State University (Detroit, MI) and Rīga Stradiņš University (Riga, Latvia). Her main research interests include ageing, care, kinship, life-making practices and health equity.

Her doctoral dissertation, All Roads Lead to the Pansionāts: State Care as a Socio-Spatial Fix in an Emptying Rural Latvia, explored ageing and institutional care in rural Latvia amid depopulation, examining how the care home for older adults, locally called the Pansionāts, becomes a site around which care, livelihoods, and social relationships are sustained and reorganized.
